피부과 전공의사들을 통해 피나스테리드 복용과 우울증 간에 직접적인 인과관계가 밝혀진 바 없다는 점이 알려졌기 때문이다. 실제 다수인 의료진들은 약 복용 보다는 탈모 자체로 인한 우울감 혹은 심리적 요인에 의해 나타나는 부작용인 ‘노시보 효과 가능성을 지적하고 있다.
공부진은 그 이유를 세포 밖 환경, 세포외기질(ECM)과 세포를 연결하는 구조인 헤미데스모좀에서 찾았다. 헤미데스모좀은 여러 단백질로 이뤄져 있어 세포와 세포외기질을 뻣뻣하게 연결하고, 세포가 보편적인 기능을 하는 데 도움을 준다고 알려져 있다.
며칠전 국제 학술지 '자마 피부과학(JAMA Dermatology)'에 피나스테리드를 복용하는 45세 이하 남성은 막막한 선택 및 우울감 위험이 높다는 공부 결과가 나왔다. 미국 브리검 남성병원 연구진은 세계보건기구(WHO)가 수집한 부작용 사례를 분석했다.
